Summer ball

Thomas and Nathan had a really good game last night...  while Jen was at the pipeline meeting. They both pitched an inning...  Nate had five runs scored on him, but most were hits, which means he was getting them over the plate, at least.

Thomas pitched an inning and a half... The half inning he came on with bases loaded (& 4 of 5 runs scored per inning already in) and walked someone. The full inning he walked one, but struck out three. Unfortunately, the guy who walked stole home...

Both of them had a hit last night!!  Nathan was his old self at the plate, send the ball just right of 2nd base... Thomas's hit was down the first base line, but his hustle allowed him to beat the throw from the pitcher to the first baseman. The Bolton team had only one other hit last night, so while the result wasn't that different from the previous games, they did have a lot more fun!

Here is a recap.  (R is Thomas)

Boston Museum of Science Overnight

We had a gastric disaster when we tried to do a Museum of Science overnight with the boys' Cub Scout pack in April, but the museum graciously let us do a make this last Friday!

Their nighttime activity was in the t-Rex area, and focused on archeological data interpretation. They made up a story with animal track stamps, and the groups had to try to guess each story. There was a girl about the boys age named Jenny who was  very good at it!  Part 2 of the activity was breaking up an "Owl Pellet" and matching bones with a bone chart to help determine the owl's diet. Nathan, Thomas and I found frog leg bones, a rodent jaw bone, and probably the same rodent's pelvis. The activity lead was from Cheektowaga!  He struck up quite a few conversations with me after he noticed Nathan's Buffalo Bills sweatshirt... He is a physics teacher in Needham who got a MS in particle physics from Buff State. Made me think sometime it might be a fun thing to volunteer to do some day when the kids are older.

We then did domino physics (stacked them to do a chain reaction tip over)... That was allowed them to play with the other kids quite a bit.

After snack and setting up our beds, we got to see the lightning show.  They did a great demo of the Tesla coils!  They used them, sparking at different frequencies, to play the "Imperial March" with Even some harmonies!

We made through the night, and got to the planetarium and IMAX theatre Saturday morning...  The IMAX film was "Amazing Caves" which was really good!

Sledding in a winter wonderland!

We got about ten inches of snow last night...  That gave us the perfect excuse to pull out the sleds!  While we took a ride across the street, Sammy pulled his trademark maneuver - he fell asleep, with his helmet falling alternately on the throttle and the reverse button. Thomas an Nathan both got a chance to ride one in the yard... Both did very well!

Hunting!

Thomas and Nathan would love to get a deer (their mother would as well, but for slightly different reasons) so, we put up a deer stand and have been bow hunting!  We're not what I'd call, experienced, but, it is a nice experience to get out into the woods and watch nature.
